Dear Parents and Carers
We have nearly completed our 3D map of Ormskirk and just need to add the market stalls. It looks great! We have Coronation Park, Boots and Sweet Memories. The children have worked very hard. We have organised a talk from Mr Bentley who is the creator of the website ‘Ormskirk – By Gone Times’, and he will be with us on Monday 5th October. We are very excited about it.
We are going to be talking about gingerbread next week, so the children will get to taste Gingerbread on Monday. If your child is unable to eat Gingerbread please tell a member of staff on Monday morning.
The children do love to bring items in to show and tell, which is lovely, but unfortunately we seem to have a lot of things being brought into school. We don’t want to upset the children by not showing their items, however when there are so many it is difficult to show them all. We would ask that if your child has been awarded a certificate from an outside group e.g. rainbows, football, doing something for charity, then this can be shown during the KS1 Awards Assembly on a Friday afternoon. For showing and telling in class could the item be about the topic we are covering at that time or something very special. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
There has been some confusion with the Spelling and Mental Maths Homework and we apologise for this. The Spelling Quiz and Mental Maths Quiz will take place every Friday, both quizzes will be marked and new spellings for next week will be put into the books ready to be sent out on the same day. We ask that you write down the spellings during the weekend and return both books to school on Monday. The Maths focus at present is number bonds to five e.g. 2 + 3 = 5, 4 + 1 = 5 and this will continue for the next two weeks. The spellings which your child is given relates to the phonics phase they are on. We have set words that we teach and these are spread through the phonics planning in no particular order. Your child will be given the spelling which relates to the week they are on. The children have never done quizzes before and they can be quite daunting, so we only give five spellings per week in Year One and in Year Two this goes up to ten spellings per week. We feel that five spellings per week is enough for a Year One child to learn.
If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak to Miss Ebdy or myself.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Birmingham and Miss Edby
