Dear Parents, we are taking those year 5 pupils, who wish to take part, to a schools Triathlon on 30th June. This event is non-competitive, and is a taster event for the real thing, which some pupils may attempt in later years. As in a proper Triathlon, the pupils will swim, Cycle and run, though it is over a much smaller course. The event is held at Park pool and Coronation Park (back field) Schools are allotted separate time slots-to arrive at the pool, pupils will attend in running kit, over their swimming gear, and bring a towel. The pupils place their running kit(P.E. Kit) and trainers/towel in a storage box, which is placed at the far end of the swimming pool.
Pupils swim 45 Mtrs. (approx. 1 1/2 lengths) get out-towel down and put on their running gear, over their swim suit!
The pupils exit the building(around the duck pond) and receive a bike and helmet, on the back field, and ride 400Mtrs.
They then finish with a 400 M. run around the field.
The pupils return to school, get changed/dried properly and get into dry clothes-uniform. The event takes no longer than 20 minutes, and we are out of school for approx. 1 hour. We are usually allotted the 1st time of the day, as we walk to the venue, usually 9.30 am. I have asked for a show of hands, and 50 of the 60 pupils, in year 5, want to take part. This is a great experience for the pupils of all ability levels. I will hand out letters/permission slips when our time slot and numbers attending are confirmed. Mr. Thomas.
