Dear Parents/Carers,
We have sent home reading books and records that are to be kept in your child's book bag, and brought into school every day please. Reading will be taught and assessed through a weekly guided reading session using books of varying text types (genres). The main purpose of the reading book/record is for home reading. Your child should be able to read the book independently, to develop fluency, understanding (inference) and comprehension skills. We would really appreciate it if you would regularly discuss with your child what she/he has read, to deepen their understanding. Also talk about meanings of unusual or difficult words with them, this will help your child's vocabulary to develop further, broadening their knowledge of more ambitious words.
Maths homework will either be a weekly task in their homework book or a 'MyMaths' task online. Written calculation practise in books is sometimes more suitable to consolidate learning, particularly if your child is learning new methods. At this stage of the year we will not set written and online Maths in the same week. Children will be reminded of passwords and how to access MyMaths Homework next week. All passwords will be sent home, glued into the front of your child's maths homework book.
English homework will be set weekly also. This task will be completed in your child's book and will usuually be comprehension or a writing task.
Spellings will be set weekly and tested every Friday. Tests will be done in your child's spelling book so that you can see how well he/she is progressing week by week.
Homework will be sent out every Friday and returned by the following Wednesday at the latest please. This allows us sufficient marking and assessment time prior to Friday, when the next set of homework will be sent out.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Knowles & Miss Williams
