Dear Parents, A fantastic event and many thanks to all-53 pupils, and only one in the wrong car! 22 needing lifts and a great result-boys 1st Girls 2nd.
We took 30 year 5's and 23 year 6's to the District event at Tarleton.
We had lost 4 of our year 6 Athletes due to District football and it was an occasion to thank the vast number of runners for attending, rather than hope for medals, but we never say never!
The top two runners from each school count towards the team score to give a boys team winners and a girls team winners. Individual medals go to the first 3 runners in each race.
The Girls year 5's were first to race and the turnout from other schools was impressive, with 90+ pupils in the race, our top two girls found it hard going and finished 12th and 34th, this gave the Girls a total of 46 points (lowest points total wins)
The Boys year 5's were next and achieved an unbelievable 1st and 2nd, in a group of 107 runners-a great start for the boys team a total of 3 points.
The year 6 Girls then tried to get in the medals and the top two finished 6th and 8th, this pushed the overall girls total to 60 points and we finished 2nd overall, well deserved silver medals for the 4 girls.
The year 6 boys knew they had a good chance of victory after the start the year 5's gave them, the top two came in 5th and 12th= 17 points and an overall 20 points- this won the boys the Gold medal.
The outstanding performance was hard to find as all runners gave everything they had-some struggled, not realizing that everyone struggles in cross country, that's why its so hard to do. Best moments were the child offering me a ticket with 94th on it, and asking if the team needed his score, He had run his race and finished in front of 4 pupils from other schools, or the year 5's who finished 97th but still had 10 pupils behind them. Everyone runs their own race at their own pace with the best of their ability.
It was a big ask to get all the runners there and back, but we did it, with thanks to the Parents who came and supported, those who offered transport, those who let their children attend when they themselves couldn't make it, the staff who got all the runners and siblings together and the organisers of the race for a great event-with over 400 pupils present. Thanks Mr. Thomas.
