Hello parents and carers,
I'm afraid "that old chestnut" - the "Parking Issue" is rearing its (rather ugly) head again.
Firstly - I wholeheartedly acknowledge - that its very tricky managing the "drop off" and "pick up" at start and end of the school day. Its especially difficult in the tight narrow vicinity of our school - based on a street which feeds into a very clogged one way system in Ormskirk (especially at peak times of the day - and most especially when ad hoc roadworks are added to the "melting pot.")
I also completely recognise that I have absolutely no authority beyond the school gates (nor would I wish to have.)
Unfortunately when reports of what amounts to downright dangerous parking / driving practice emerge - I have a duty to respond - and very sadly - that is exactly where we find ourselves.
I know that the vast majority of our parents take the issue of the safety of the children very seriously indeed. There is compelling evidence, unfortunately, that in the daily rush - there are a small number who are taking risks - and what's more - taking risks with the lives of other people's children and I cannot stress strongly enough - its ABSOLUTELY - taking risks with the lives of other people's children.
I understand that everyone is extremely busy - and that time is precious. It's not, however, as precious as our young people's safety. Parking each morning and afternoon is available in legal areas at certain parts of the roadside near to school, in the Social Centre Car Park and in Morrison's Car Park. Please, please do not park on the Yellow Lines near school - and especially PLEASE do not mount the pavement to park there either.
Reluctantly, I have made contact with the Local Community Policing Team to support us with enforcement of this - since I also know that we have a lovely, wonderful community of parents who would be beyond devastated if any one was responsible for the injury (or worse - and this is a very real possibility) of a child entering or leaving school due to bad driving practice. They have agreed to made random appearances over the coming months to do exactly that.
More than anything else - I wish to work with our terrific parents - so ask again - PLEASE help us with this vitally important issue.
Kind regards
